In this lesson we will tell you what TikTok transitions are and how to do them.

What are transitions on TikTok?
Transitions are particular effects applied to photos or during the editing of videos made in TikTok. There are several kinds, and among the ones tiktokers and musers use most you will find spin transitions and screen transitions.
The first involve rotating the phone screen once or several times while recording. The second involve using a second device to change the background or other details within the same video.
Let’s go step by step through how to do transitions on Android and iOS.

How to do transitions on TikTok
TikTok transitions can be applied to videos and photos alike. Let’s see how.
How to do photo transitions on TikTok
Here is how to do transitions on TikTok in photos; the procedure is the same on Android and iOS.
Step 1 – open the app by tapping its icon (the musical note) and log into your account
Step 2 – go to the menu bar at the bottom of the screen and tap the (+) icon

Step 3 – tap the “Upload” icon at the bottom right of the app interface
Step 4 – tap the “photo template” or “M/V” tab at the bottom right, then pick the kind of slideshow you want from the ones available
Step 5 – once you have chosen the slideshow type, tap the photos you want to load (10 maximum) from your gallery, then confirm with the “ok” or “next” button at the top right
Step 6 – you can then edit the slideshow you have made, adding stickers, text, filters and effects from the relevant menu items. That last one in particular, under “Trans“, lets you add further transition effects
Step 7 – now pick from the transition effects available. Finally, tap “save” to store the project on your TikTok profile
Step 8 – once your edits are finished, tap the “next” button and then “publish” to share the slideshow with your friends. Before that, make sure you add a caption and a hashtag, and @ your friend
Note: to apply the transition filter you can use the “sequence” function, which has the advantage of letting you add as many photos as you like to the slideshow. To use it, once step 3 is done, tap the photos you want to import and then tap the “sequence” button at the top right. Tap “Horizontal” or “Vertical” to switch orientation, then tap “√” to confirm the transition effect in both directions. Publishing works exactly as above.

How to do video transitions on TikTok
After photos, let’s look at how to apply transition filters to videos you shoot or to ones you have already shot and stored on your device.
Step 1 – open the app by tapping its icon (the musical note) and log into your account
Step 2 – go to the menu bar at the bottom of the screen and tap the (+) icon

Step 3 – choose whether to record a new video with the round red button or to upload one from your phone or tablet.
Step 4 – in the editing interface, set the music, effects, transition filters and any other special effects. If you need more, read our TikTok guide or our post on slow motion on TikTok.
Step 5 – after the initial editing, record the video, and when you have finished tap “√” or “next” depending on whether you shot live or uploaded from your phone’s memory.
Step 6 – from the menu select effects and then “Trans” to add one of the transition effects available. Finally, tap “save” to store your changes.
Step 7 – once the project is saved to your profile, tap “next” and then “publish” to share the video with your friends.
Other ways to do transitions on TikTok
Now let’s look at another way of applying transition filters to videos shot in the app on Apple and Android devices. The method comes from a video by the young tiktoker Valeria Vedovatti, which you will find at the bottom.
Step 1 – open the app by tapping its icon (the musical note) and log into your account
Step 2 – in the recording and editing interface, choose the music or song clip you want to use. Favour tracks with clear breaks so you can slot transitions in easily, and watch the copyright. From here the procedure differs by device.
Step 3 – start the video with the record button and make the movements you will later build the transitions around.
Apple devices
Step 3 – swipe up to open the control panel, turn on screen recording if it isn’t already on and mute the audio. If screen recording isn’t there, go to “settings”, then “control centre”, then “customise controls”. Check the list and add the option with a tap on (+).
Step 4 – then go to “edit”, where trial and error will teach you how, where and in what way to move the filters.

Step 5 – now go to your gallery and, using the “edit” icon at the top right of the screen, trim the clip. Then go back to the app, tap (+), select the clip and choose whether to save it privately or publish it.
Android devices
Step 6 – download the app “Mobizen” from the Play Store, which lets you record the screen. Open the app and tap the camera-shaped icon on the right of the screen, then tap the camera to start recording.
Step 7 – as with the iPhone above, go back to TikTok and to “edit” and change the effects from the menu bar at the bottom of the screen. Scroll through the images and tap the ones you like.
Step 8 – the video is now saved to your gallery and all that is left is to trim it and post it, as we saw with the iPhone. If you want, you can open the video and, using the second icon at the bottom right of the screen, add your emoji so they appear among the “most recent”.
Step 9 – turn on the screen recorder from the control panel and place your emoji wherever you want with a finger across the video. To finish, just stop the screen recorder with the usual stop button.
As we said, there are plenty of transitions you can apply to videos on TikTok, and you will keep finding new ones on YouTube.
