Here is how to do slow motion on TikTok in a few simple steps, on both Android and iOS.
How to record slow motion video on TikTok
Here are the steps to record slow motion video on TikTok:
Step 1 – open the app by tapping its icon (the musical note) and log into your account
Step 2 – go to the menu bar at the bottom of the screen and tap the (+) icon

Step 3 – in the video recording and editing interface that opens, tap the “speed” function. A menu with several options (0.1x, 0.5x and so on) appears just above the record button. The app defaults to 1x, which is “normal” speed. Pick the slow motion speed you want from the values on the left
Step 4 – once you have set the speed, the filters, the transitions and any other special effects, press and hold the red button to start recording. Remember you can flip the camera by tapping the circled arrows at the top right of the screen
Step 5 – tap the red tick at the bottom right of the record button to save the video and open the editing page. The preview function lets you watch the result of the recording

Step 6 – from the recording interface tap “add music” and pick the track you want to use. If you don’t already have one in mind, choose from the app’s large library. Tap the red “Use this sound and start filming” option under the song to use it, and the “play” icon to preview the track
Step 7 – tap the “Next” button at the bottom right of the screen to reach the publishing interface. Write a caption for your video with the right hashtag, set its options and publish it to your profile
How to add slow motion on TikTok to a video you already have
If you want to apply the slow motion effect to a video shot earlier, the procedure is this:
Step 1 – open the app by tapping its icon (the musical note) and log into your account
Step 2 – go to the menu bar at the bottom of the screen and tap the (+) icon
Step 3 – now choose whether to record live or upload a video from your device’s library. Pick the second option and upload your video by tapping “upload” first, then selecting the video you want
Step 4 – as we saw above, once the video is saved or uploaded you land on the post-editing page. The “trim” icon lets you shorten the clip if needed, while the speedometer icon adds the slow motion effect. A menu with several options (0.1x, 0.5x and so on) opens; pick the slow motion speed you want from the values on the left
Step 5 – once your edits are done, tap the “Next” button at the bottom right of the screen to reach the publishing interface. Write a caption for your video with the right hashtag, adjust the settings if needed and publish the video to your profile

Now let’s look at how to apply the slow motion effect to videos easily with two tools: Vizmato and BeeCut, the second of which offers advanced editing features.

Vizmato is a video editor that lets you create, edit and convert videos on Android devices and then share them with friends or followers.
To learn how to do slow motion for TikTok, follow these steps.
- Go to the Google Play Store and download and install the app on your Android device
- Then open the app and tap the “Edit video” button
- Pick a video from your gallery and tap the “Slow” function
- Once done, tap the “Preview” icon at the top right of the interface, then tap “Save” to store the video on your Android device

BeeCut
Unlike the first one, BeeCut is available for Android, iOS and Windows PC and comes with advanced editing features. The tool also offers a wide selection of overlays, effects, filters and transitions to work with.
To learn how to do slow motion on TikTok, follow these steps:
- Start by downloading the app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store and installing it on your device
- Then open the app on your phone and tap the “Import” button to import a video
- Once imported, drag the video onto the timeline. Double-tap it and adjust the video speed to get the slow motion effect you want
- Finally, export the video by tapping the “Export” button at the top left of the interface.
