How to go live on TikTok

Starting a live video on TikTok is extremely simple. Here are the steps:

Step 1 – download and install: first download the app from the Play Store or the Apple Store. Once installed, open the app by tapping its musical-note icon.

Step 2 – launching the app: once you are logged in, tap the “+” button on the menu bar at the bottom of the screen. If this is your first time recording, tap “OK” to let TikTok use your camera and microphone.

Step 3 – choosing the recording type: after tapping the (+) icon, the video recording and editing interface opens with two options next to the record button: Video and “Live”. Pick the second one before you start recording.

Step 4 – starting the broadcast: tap the red button to start streaming live. As on other social networks, add a caption or title to your live stream that will pull in tiktokers, fans and followers. Then tap “Go live” to start the stream.

Tips and notes on going live on TikTok

As you have seen, going live on TikTok is extremely simple. Even so, you may find that the Live option does not appear in the recording and editing interface on your device. One reason can be that the app is out of date.

Far more likely, though, is that the app reserves this option for accounts with 1,000 or more followers.

Likewise, if the live session will not start after you tap “Go Live“, make sure the title or caption contains no words such as duet, fan, donation or best friend. The app is strict about what goes into its videos.
