How do you create an Instagram profile? That is one of the first questions people ask when they start using Instagram.
But what is Instagram? Instagram is a fast-growing photo-led social network, bought by Facebook, that lets you share photos and videos (up to a minute long) shot instantly and easily on your phone, with effects to personalise what you make.
That is the key to Instagram’s success: building your own profile, with your own style.
The app is used by more than 500 million people, and one of its strengths is that you can download and use it on several devices, since it works across platforms and lets you share your photos to other networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Ameba and Ok.ru — an integrated platform that can connect other accounts inside it.

Creating an Instagram profile: here is how
In this section you will find instructions for signing up to Instagram on a phone and on a computer.
Signing up to Instagram on a phone
The first thing to say is not to worry about your operating system version or your phone model — you will have no trouble installing it.
Here is how to create an Instagram account from a phone: first open the Google Play Store if you have an Android phone, the App Store on iOS or the Windows Phone Store on Windows Mobile, and type Instagram into the search bar. How could you miss it? It is that colourful icon that looks like a camera.
If you would rather skip the steps, you can go straight to downloading Instagram. Here you can download Instagram for iPhone: download, and if you want the Android app, download Instagram for Android.
Right, now that you have found it, download the app by tapping install.
Once downloaded, tap Open while still in the Play Store and the sign-up area appears. If you leave instead, tap the Instagram icon in your app menu to open it.
You are now in the right place to register with Instagram.

Open Instagram: when the app opens, the screen you see lets you sign up.
You can sign up in several ways: through your Facebook profile, by entering your email address, or by entering your phone number, which needs a confirmation code.
If you have decided to join Instagram by email or phone number, tap Sign up with email address and phone number and pick the Email or Phone tab on the screen that appears.
Now fill in the form by typing (depending on what you chose) your email address or your phone number.
Once entered, tap Next and fill in the form that appears with your full name, the password you want to use for Instagram, and a photo for your profile. Careful here: if you want visibility, the profile should be public rather than private.
You can change that setting later inside your Instagram profile, under settings.
When that is done, tap Next, create a username and a password, fill in your profile information and then tap Done to finish creating your Instagram account.
If you sign up to Instagram using Facebook, you will be asked to log into your Facebook account if you are not already logged in.
If you decide to sign in through Facebook, you can do it quickly with the relevant button, authorising access to your account and then setting your profile photo and username: follow the instructions in the line above.
Once registration with Instagram is done, the app encourages you to widen your circle of friends by importing contacts from social networks and your address book.
At the start of your Instagram experience it helps you build a network of contacts to follow, showing one or more screens asking to find your Facebook friends already on the app and letting you import contacts from your phonebook.
You can accept that or not; if you don’t, just tap Skip to move past those steps.
If you did decide to add contacts, you will also be shown a list of suggested profiles from among the most recently followed.
If you want to add them to your feed, and so see their photo and video updates in Instagram’s “home”, tap Follow (next to those profiles’ names).

Creating an Instagram account on a PC: how?
You can create an Instagram account from a computer too — on a desktop or laptop you can also see content from the people you follow or find interesting.
First go to the official Instagram site and a section with fields to fill in appears on your right: enter your details — email address, a username, your name and a password for the app — then tap Sign up.
Here too, as on mobile, you can register through Facebook: just tap Log in with Facebook, and you may have to enter your Facebook details if you are not already logged in on the computer.
Remember to enter a valid email address, otherwise it won’t let you in; besides, if you forget your password, the recovery emails go to the address you registered with.
After creating your Instagram account, a page opens that lets you add a profile photo: you will see a (+) sign at the top, and tapping it lets you add the image that helps other people recognise you, alongside following accounts and searching for whatever you like.
