How often to post on Instagram | Instagram Academy

·

Welcome to the lesson about posting frequency on Instagram. Today you will find out how often to post on Instagram.

In the previous lesson we looked at when to post on Instagram; now we will talk about how much.

You have probably asked yourself this, because you have realised that consistency on Instagram pays — yet it is never clear how many images to publish daily on Instagram without people unfollowing you.

Let’s see whether we can clear that up, while still recommending you run some tests to see how your audience responds.

Read on to learn more about the number of photos a day on Instagram.

How often should you post on Instagram?

Before working out how often to post on Instagram, bear in mind that we are talking about a social network, and for it to work as one you have to be present on the platform.

In the strategy you plan, remember that presence is fundamental if you want your content to matter and if you want to win followers.

Here is our advice on how often to post on Instagram:

  • Instagram doesn’t favour posts close together (if you publish a photo at 1pm, don’t publish another straight after — wait at least 3-4 hours).
  • Better one striking photo a day than plenty of poor ones thrown up at random.
  • Publish 1 to 3 photos a day, with several hours between them.
  • Don’t repeat yourself
  • People should see your content at a moderate rate: don’t disappear, but don’t push your work at them either.

Best day to post on Instagram? Monday and Thursday (outside working hours, naturally).

What does posting frequency on Instagram depend on?

Posting frequency depends on the kind of page you have built.

Clearly it depends on many things: above all you have to get inside your audience’s head, put yourself in their place to understand what they think and therefore what will please or annoy them.

For some businesses posting more is necessary; for others two photos a day are enough.

If you are publishing for a page promoting a party, it is natural to post more as the date approaches, to remind people it is coming.

Scheduling Instagram posts: a help for your business

You cannot be distracted on Instagram. You cannot afford to forget to publish.

Days are always full of things to do, and you have opened your Instagram profile but risk not publishing at a steady rate — the right one for your business — because it slips your mind among everything else.

Good news: you won’t have that problem any more. Why?

There are both phone apps and online platforms that let you schedule the posts you publish on Instagram.

Before looking at which ones and how they work, let’s understand why using them matters.

Why schedule posts on Instagram?

Scheduling posts on Instagram becomes very useful, above all for a company that has to run several networks and prepare plenty of content.

Bear in mind that Instagram keeps growing and the volume of posts published is always enormous (there are a great many registered, active users — 800 million of them).

So companies on Instagram, and individuals too, might consider investing heavily in a network that could deliver big results.

To make the best use of time and effort at the content level, it is worth scheduling posts on Instagram and deciding at the same time how often to post.

In some cases you have several profiles, and running more than one at once can be hard — another good reason to schedule posts.

Even a single profile can be run and organised well this way.

Types of tool for scheduling Instagram posts

A short aside so you know there are two kinds of app for scheduling posts on Instagram. There are scheduling tools that are:

  • Reminder: platforms or apps that send you a notification
  • Automatic: they publish your content automatically (against Instagram’s rules)

Tools that publish automatically are a little risky, because Instagram may block the profiles that use them. So it is better to use tools that send the user an alert reminding them to publish the post at the time and date decided earlier.

So which tools help you schedule posts at the best times?

Let’s answer that right away.

Here are some tools you can use to schedule posts on Instagram, and therefore to decide how often to post.

Plan your posting times calmly so you are sure to reach your followers.

One of the most-used apps for this is Hootsuite. Using Hootsuite is not difficult: the interface is intuitive and it lets you run your strategy across several networks. It also measures results and highlights the most important conversations around a keyword, so you can see what people say about you or the competition. You can install the app on your phone and manage your profiles from there easily.

You can also schedule posts with Oktopost, which has the same features as Hootsuite but is aimed at business to business.

Three more tools specifically for scheduling your Instagram posts:

1. Buffer (simpler and more intuitive than Hootsuite, though it handles post scheduling rather than managing profile feeds);

2. HopperHQ (more expensive than the others, publishes automatically once you have scheduled your content, is allowed by Instagram and protects against data hackers);

3. Later (the most complete tool, which also gives you statistics on your profile and helps you think through future strategy).
