Useful Things to Know Before Signing Up for Facebook

Here’s some useful information about Facebook:

  • you should know that the minimum age to sign up for Facebook is 13, and parental consent would still be required;
  • Facebook is a free social network, meaning you don’t have to pay anything at all to sign up! Happy? Don’t believe anyone who tells you that you need a premium profile or that you have to pay for any reason. The only reason to pay — as we’ll see later on — is if you want to advertise your business, so relax and sign up for Facebook. A whole new world might open up for you!
  • You can sign up for Facebook from a computer, a tablet, or a smartphone.

Now let’s take a closer look at these procedures!

How to Sign Up for Facebook from a Computer?

Not sure how to complete your Facebook sign-up from a computer?

Here’s the deal: open your browser, go to the official Facebook page — this one — and a page with the registration form will open right in front of you.

To sign up for Facebook you’ll need to fill in the fields you find there: enter your first and last name, phone number or email address, re-enter your phone number or email address, and then create a password (letters and numbers that only you will know — and that I recommend writing down somewhere!).

Next, enter your date of birth just below and select male or female.

Press the Sign Up button to complete your Facebook registration!

As soon as you proceed with your Facebook sign-up, you’ll receive a confirmation code by text on your phone or by email (depending on what you entered) — enter it on the next screen that opens.

To finish creating your Facebook profile, you’ll have the chance to invite friends to connect with you right away — or rather, to ask to be included in their contacts — and you can start building your network of friends, people you know, or people you’d like to know.

Facebook will initially ask if you want to import the contacts from your address book or your email to find friends who are on Facebook. You can also choose to skip this step.

Now you can move on to completing your Facebook profile by uploading a profile photo or taking one on the spot, then filling in the fields with information about yourself, which will be visible to anyone who checks out your profile.

Facebook asks you to add information about your education, your work, and where you live. You can also add your relationship status and contact details, such as an email where people could reach you.

You can choose to fill in the forms Facebook suggests, and after that, if you like, you can change your profile photo or add a cover photo (the one that sits behind the profile photo and takes up more room — the horizontal space at the top of your profile).

Signing Up for Facebook from Your Phone.

Now that we’ve seen how to sign up for Facebook from a computer, I’ll show you how to complete your Facebook sign-up from your phone.

Signing up for Facebook from your phone is really easy!

You can sign up on any smartphone with an active data connection — in other words, one that can connect to the internet.

If you have an iPhone, download the Facebook app from the App Store; if you have any other smartphone, you can find Facebook here.

Once the app has downloaded, open it and tap Sign Up for Facebook or Create New Facebook Account, then press Get Started or Next to begin the Facebook sign-up process.

In the middle of the screen you’ll see two fields where you’ll need to enter the phone number or the email address you use.

Continue once more, and Facebook will ask you to enter your details: first and last name. Keep going and you’ll need to enter a password (if you’re afraid of losing it, my advice to write it down applies here too!) and indicate whether you’re a woman or a man, filling in the date-of-birth fields as well.

Now, 3 things to do: add a Facebook profile photo, decide whether to let Facebook import the contacts from your address book or your email (so you can immediately find friends who are already signed up), or skip this step.

You might be done — or maybe not, because you could add your profile details by tapping the profile photo, below which you’ll see the label profile information.

You can add your education, or where you live, your work experience, and more. You can tell your story.

To finish the process you’ll need to verify your identity.

If you signed up using your email, check your inbox and click the link you received.

If you signed up with your phone number, you’ll need to enter a code you’ll receive by text message, in the text field that appears after your first login. Verification is essential — otherwise your new Facebook account will be deleted within a few days.

And How Do Tablet Users Sign Up for Facebook?

If you use a tablet, you won’t have any problem signing up for Facebook.

The steps are more or less the same: Facebook wants to know who you are, it wants your email or a phone number, and the more you’re willing to tell it, the happier it will be!

The difference you may notice is that while on a computer or a phone you’ll see separate screens one after another with the various steps to complete, on a tablet everything might appear on a single screen, including the privacy settings for the posts you’ll publish.

Essentially it’s the same, but on a tablet there’s a cluster of information to enter on a single page.
